Cleaning House

I just love the feeling I get when I see a newly organized closet or neat stack of books. Much like the adrenaline high I experience after logging several miles on the treadmill, the sight of a perfectly ordered and clean space just makes me happy. If you are a Type A like me, you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t fit into the neat and tidy Type A category, the first few lines of this post may have been lost on you. And if so, I’m truly sorry for that. But, in any event, at the end of the day, I can’t go to bed until my house is tidy (well, as tidy as a house inhabited by two adults, a preschooler, a toddler and two cats can be). And on more than one occasion, Taylor has mocked me for spending the last few moments of the day picking up the scattered toys in the playroom. I tell him that it’s so the girls can just mess it up all over again the next day, but truthfully, I can’t stand going to bed knowing that there’s a mess in the house. (Note: Please don’t go down into my basement until July — my new “Basement Clean-Up Project” deadline.)

Now that spring is officially upon us, I have been bitten, once again, by the clean-up bug. Once the temperature in the house reaches a comfortable 65-plus degrees without help from the heat, I am suddenly inspired to toss aside my warm, green sherpa throw and pull on my rubber gloves. Since spring has sprung, I’m proud to say that I’ve managed to check a few small “to-dos” off of my never-ending list. And as I’m currently in the midst of helping pull together two bridal showers and one baby shower, this is no small feat.

Not only is my basement in desperate need of an overhaul, but I feel as if my poor, overstimulated brain could use some TLC. The hustle and bustle of the holidays really took its toll on me and my motivation to blog. At first, it was an issue of time-management. And then, it just became a matter of convenience. When enough time had passed, it was basically a question of, “Do I really want to sit down at the computer after a busy day and lay it all on the line?” And as most of us know, if we fall out of a routine, it’s that much harder to get back into. After a while, I really started to miss blogging — it was the one time all week where I could just sit down and be myself by myself. Like those of us who have purchased exercise equipment as a way to kickstart a healthier lifestyle, I decided to change the look and feel of Deep Thought Thursdays by purchasing a new theme — the motivation I needed to get back on the blogging bandwagon. So, what you are presented with this evening is a fresh start in a newly clean and organized space. There is still some reorganizing to do (isn’t there always??), but at least the heart of the message is still here. There may be weeks where I don’t get the chance to write as much as I’d like, but I will do my best to post something — even if it’s just a cute little Clara or Elyse – ism or anecdote.

I hope you like the new look and feel of DTT as much as I do. Coincidentally enough, the name of the blog’s new theme is Just Desserts. And as I like to end almost every day by relaxing with a little something sweet, it is my wish that the new and improved DTT will satisfy your craving at the end of a busy work week.

Till next week — same time, same place!

  1. Hi Petunia! Glad to be reading a DTT again — love the new look and feel! And I definitely relate to this one….Auntie Linda is aType A (especially re: storage space and garages) (no basements here!) and very happily married to Uncle Richard who is a Type Z! So we meet somewhere in the middle….at Type L….”Let it go because I Love him and Life is too short to worry about the Little things.” But I truly understand picking up everything before settling down for the night. If the house is in order then my head is in order. I tell myself people could have much worse habits than wanting everything put in its place!!!! Please keep writing Sweetie — you’re amazing — and we both love hearing what’s happening in the Henshall family. Love to all!
